Listen to VR6..I've driven this and I've driven that...Bla..Bla...Bla. Dude test driving Bimmers with your daddy in the back seat and some slick salesman named Biff in the front does not even qualify you to even write about what you think a sport sedan should be...Come with experience or facts or get lost....

A 323i 5 speed, sport package is a damn nice car, very sporty, fairly quick, great steering feel, nice interior, I'd say it's as nice as an IS300 - BUT, BMW no longer makes those, now they make the Camry-steering 325i, which I haven't driven, but if it's like the 330i, the steering sucks, no longer has much feel at all.

Hmmm well yes I am the other so called uneducated person supposedly stating my uneducated comments here... Well cute VW's huh..yeah they are pretty cute huh DOUG. Shame how Vw's appearance can have a complete makover and still I see all the IS300's looking the same. Sure the IS is fairly new but a body kit is all you can add, and yet it would still look the same. OH and as far as the supercharger goes....ahhheemmm hey DOUG check out how cute these VW's look. "http://members.aol.com/~vwnut99".. After seeing those cute VW's doug think twice about your snobby comments because the fact is its not an expensive Euro and maybe not the highest quality but you definitely get what you pay for. And as far as torque steer goes I find that to be a compliment on a car simply showing that its a true "sports" car or sedan, not some hype commercials to promote a car to be sporty when it isn't.

i woudlnt' lay the smack on doug, no matter waht you can do to a vw, he can do the same to his c5, and he can do it better. maybe he can't strip the interior like you **** do with your beetles, but he'll have class. just shut the hell up and leave. you know nohthing.

MRCLAM... act like one and keep your mouth closed and get off his dic already because he owns that C5 not you. Beetles??? What discussion are you reading?? Please add something worth reading of a good arguement and not your petty comments. I am referring to watercooled VW's btw [email protected] Like I said I am not here to flame and I am more than happy for you guys who purchased your IS for personal satisfaction of the driving experience but the majority of people making the purchase of these cars are due to hype and how cool you may look in one.. yeah the commercial with that engine SCREAMING and just focussing on the dash was the nail in the coffin. Like i said on another post, just didn't go that extra mile for the GS400.

just so you know, i don't drive an IS and my reference to beetles(the old school ones) is just something i get annoyed with. and well, i hope you have fun with yor VW, i could've done the samething with a crx si, i could do this:
1.6L Civic Si engine(the b16a or something)
custom turbo
sway bars
strip the interior
nos
internals

and i could be just like your VW buddies, but in the end, a civic is still a civic, and a vw is still a vw.

Well said, ckolsen.

I currently own a 2000 323i with sports pckg and manual trans. It also has the old steering, not the new one, which is great. As much as I like it, I also like the IS300 very much. I wish they offered it in a manual. Perhaps next year I may get one too if they come with manual transmission.

I think it's great that the IS300 is as good a car as it is. It will make the competition (read: BMW, MB, etc) better, as well as the next generation IS better, let alone to offer consumers more choices. There is no need for all the bashing going on here. All cars have their strong points, as well as their weak points.

umm.. sorry, but bimmers are wayy more expensive than IS300s. That's actually one of the reason I got is300. I get all the cool options with out extra money. I mean, if you add all the options like cd-changer, xenon head light, heated seat, sun roof, 17 wheels , etc it would cost more than 40k
plus bimmer seems to have problems with their electronics system and they are mad expensive to fix.

yep, which true sports car is FWD? I don't even consider a FR layout a true sports car, let alone a FF car. A true sports car should be MR layout, and for under $50K, Boxster and Elise (you can get it here in U.S.) are what I consider true sports cars, but anything that is RWD will be considered as a good sports car.
May I ask why you consider torque steer as the evident that the car is sporty?

Wrong. A true sports car is the one that wins races. Where the engine is located is only a small element of what makes a "true" sports car, whatever that is.

Vr6, funny, I haven't heard one word about what you liked and didn't like in your SUPPOSED test drive of the IS. I don't think you've even driven it.

Sounds like you are agreeing that the IS is cool. Agreed. Now where are you coming up with the point that people are buying the IS because of the hype??? Who cares about commercials? What loser buys a car based on marketing glitz? We bought the car because we liked it.

And to say why didn't we go for a GS4? Maybe because we didn't want to drop 50K on a car. Ever think of that.

I don't understand why your panties are in a bunch over the IS commercials. Obviously, the commercials are doing their job because you are awfully infatuated with them!

Another thing, in general, people who can handle five to seven hundred bucks for a car payment in addition to living a normal life, i.e., a decent home, savings plan, etc., are not stupid. Hype has little to do with purchasing this car.

I'm so sick of these VW guys thinking they are the sh*t. I didn't buy the IS on hype, i bought it cause it is a luxury ride (somewhat sporty too). F*ck hype. I knew the IS isn't a rocket. Thats why i kept my Hybrid Crx (which by the way would smoke most modded VWs). So quit your bitching VRsucks and goto your own board hillbilly...

Well put cardman. I posted similar in another thread. This guy claims to know what is in the mind of the IS300 owners. To quote " Most of the IS owners bought the car due to hype."

I will say it again he does not know crap. LEXUS has sold what over 10,000 IS 300 and he claims to know all of them. Boy he is realy popular. The commercials have done just what they were intended to do, raise awareness and get people to the dealership to see the car. After that the car sells itself. We loved the look, the feel and that it was a LEXUS that offered a more sport feel then the old conservative look of BMW.

That is why those guys and gals on Madison Ave. make so much money. They did their job on this ad campaign.
