I am not sure if it is worth the money.......i know it is the best but is it really better then the rest? $400 is a lot of money for a detector. Anyone who has it and who has had others can you please tell me what you think? I am looking in to getting it very soon.

Thanks for your help

ive been in other cars with other models, specifically the Passport 8500...

Id still get the Valentine any day of the week. Once you live with the arrows, there is no going back. Its just so much more intuitive once you have directional sensitivity on top of distance.

I purchased the V1 about 2 months ago. It's a great unit and performs as expected. To be fair though, I believe both the V1 and Passport 8500 gets the job done. They are neck and neck in all the reviews but I chose the V1 because it fits my application better. I wanted a stealth install with a remote unit located out of sight in my accord. I was able to do this with ease using the V1 and remote display unit. I'm also the type that wants to know where the signals are coming from and the arrows aid in this. I've been in other cars with radar detectors and it really sucks to just be paranoid when it goes off. With the V1, you at least know which direction to look and decide if it's a real threat or just a false signal. To sum it up, if you want a radar detector which simply does the job, save yourself the extra $100 and get the 8500. If you want something that gives you a better piece of mind and doesn't leave you second guessing, invest in the V1.

I LOVE my V1. It's saved my butt plenty of times (just last night it picked up the local cruiser in Laguna Beach blacked out as I rolled up on him).

I can't say it's better than the Passport since I've never tried that one - but if you decide to go with the V1 you won't be disappointed. It really works.

Yup... that is true.... LASER, you get only one shot... as well as Ka POP instant rader gun... but, you can pick up the reflection of laser pretty good with V1..... and they are working on Ka POP now.....

and about the jammer, that is illegal.... but I believe Faser(?) works pretty good I heard....

I would agree the 8500 is a better buy. It has double the programble features of the V1 and its $100 cheaper. They are about equal in distance detecton (both over a mile).
From what ive read, the V1 is a very chatty dector. Also the arrow thing get me, if my 8500 peeps past the 1 bar i slow down, i don't car which side its coming from. Although the arrows probly are nice, i can't justify a dector with the same performace less than half the features of the 8500 for $100 more.

www.radartest.com theres some reading for ya

*edit*BTW 8500 pick up laser. But it is insanly hard to pick up because it is so accurte. So any dector will have problems with it. Read through that link i posted, and you will pick up some stuff.

That is not 100% true. Maybe for other detectors, as I have never used them. I have had several occasions where V1 detected laser when the cars in front of me were targeted.

When people say laser, it is not laser used in sharpshooter's rifles. It is more or less comparable to a flashlight. Imagine that a cop uses flashlight beam to "shoot" at other cars (laser beam is approx 18" wide at its effective distance). If you were driving and the cars in front of you were "targeted", would you see it? Same goes for the laser detector.

P.S.
I have never seen V1 owner (short of ignorant ones) that was not satisfied with the product. Because of me, more than 6 people I know purchased V1. None would use anything else now. That has got to tell you something.

I don't really like Peterson from RadarTest.com, as he has (deliberatly or not) missed listing V1's features in the past, and some of his statements were contradictory.

Everything in this statement is true except for the width of the laser. Its more around 11" wide at the effective distance. Which is why its so hard to dectect.

I have no beef with the V1. I think arrows are a nice touch, but to me it doesn't justify the extra $100. especially when it doesn't have the features the 8500 does. But its up to you. :D
