Good idea...The reason I posted here though was because someone else posted something about the 6-spd in this forum.. Plus I don't peruse the Acura forums because I own a GS400 and would rather spend my time in the Lexus BB's....

Tag66: Not all the info is correct... No 6 - speed for '02.
This was taken from an acura dealer post from this thread

I highly doubt that they will have a 6-speed manual for the TLS. If Acura decided to have a car /w manual, I feel that the CLS would have been manual b4 the TLS.

I don't think there will be one as I can't think of how they would put 260HP to the front wheels without their vehicle stability assist and traction control. I don't know of many sticks with those features or if it is even possible. Auto trannies give a lot of features not available with sticks but we all like to stir the soup.

Yea...it will have a stick. The reason for this is that the Prelude will be replaced by basically the Accord Coupe, of course it will be lighter than the regular Accord and more sporty, plus it will have the 6-Cylinder J series engine in it. And since it is a sports car it will be offered in manual. By the way Honda does make a manual transmission that fits the car...it's sitting in my garage attached to an NSX! Of course if you don't believe me...the Honda of America Race Team will verify this.

Funny... the TL Type S in the Los Angeles Auto Show had the same 5 speed Sport Shift as the CL Type S. I don't doubt that a manual tranny will fit the TL or any J30/J32/J35 Block. Its just in the hands of marketing, not enthusiasts.

IMHO, I don't think they will ever have a 6 speed fit into either the TL or CL. I honestly don't see the point and don't see the market. Yes, the Type-S are fast!!! But so, it handles like $hit. BTW I am not a IS300 owner that is trying to bash the Acura here. As a matter of fact, I drive a TL myself.

With only 225 horses & FWD. The car feels like it's going out of control in the next sec everytime I try to push it to the limit. Now imagine 260 horses, and CL type-s suspension in my TL. I wouldn't buy a car like this. I buy the TL because it's comfortable, and it give me the power to smoke some punk ass rices. Honestly a TL with suspension mod and I/H/E hang with the CL type-S and might even out handle it. But then again, what's the point. If you want a sporty car, go with the IS or the bimmer.

Oh, btw I heard somebody in Toronto actually stick a last-gen CL 5 speed gearbox into the TL. And the car doesn't feels like a sedan anymore. Feels like a POS. Everything is about balance I guess.

There's no way the last gen CL's 5 speed would fit...it's for the 4-cylinder. And F=MA, didn't we have this discussion before?
The NSX tranny will fit the J Block...it just won't fit in the car without mad customization...so it's kind of pointless...just shows the technology is there.

Argh! I'm not arguing with you, nor was I ever. Reread my post. I Don't doubt that a manual will fit a J-series engine. All I'm saying is that Honda Marketing division prolly will stop it from happening, though from an engineering standpoint, its very feasable.

You are always argumentative!
Just Kidding. I don't know about the Marketing issues. Remeber they probably would sell more in Europe if they had manuals...and possibly the same in Japan. I think since the manuals offer better performance in terms of acceleration...many people would see these numbers and assume the automatic is "about" as fast...and purchase one. It's all just peoples interpretation of numbers they see...and a manual transmission makes them see better numbers in a brochure...regardless of what type of transmission they are buying.

Just got off the phone with a friend of mine who works for Acura. He said not anytime soon at least. The new 3.2tl S doesn't have it so at least not in the 2001 model year. By the way I drove the 3.2 cl S yesterday and I think the is 300 will eat it up. I think becuase of gearing. Which might explain why the is300 get 18-23 mpg when the S type get 19-29 mpg. Just my 2cents.

The stock CL Type-S will beat a stock IS 300.

The new TL-S will have the same 5spd. as the CL. The 6 speed thing was just a rumor based on total conjecture and it was quickly dismissed.
By the way, my stock CLS beat my friend's IS300 about 8 times in a row up to about 110mph where we left off. I was multiple car lengths ahead in each of the races. Since my 3rd gear gets me to about 115, the IS300 isn't making up any ground on me until that point.

Hey, hey, hey! We're not starting a war between Acura and Lexus here. I thought it was over an ages ago. CL-S will smoke IS in straight line, but IS will handle better in twisty roads. That's it. No more arguing. Now, just talk about 6-spd TL-S or... whatever... Just don't start the old crap that was over ages ago. Peace.
