Some people just need to be more adult and mature how we post and comment on here. Don't hate on noobs as we've all been there before. I'm just here to get info and ideas. I'm also ready to answer any ?'s or give advice to any fellow members since I did do quite a bit of work on mine.

Never seen an [original] owner like that :D

I do research prior to asking questions, most people just find it easier to ask someone who had experience... Not everyone is good at cars or knows what is best for the car. Those that want to help will help, those that don't wont...simple as that.

Thanks to all those that do help :) Been making a lot of progress since I got my car.

Cool, i've just joined this site and hope any future Q's i may have ( however seemingly daft or asked before!) will at least be acknowledged and not ridiculed! We've all got to start somewhere guys, so i'm glad to see some genuine, knowledgable and hopefully helpful fellow IS aficionados are out there. Cheers, DameGinger. :)

For Real...

We all drive an IS and the fact they are looking and reaching out for help with their car is what this site is all about.
We should not be bashing each other.
75% of people drive practical cars and care about shareholder value and could care less about wanting help on their car, they will just swipe the card and have someone else do it for them.
GO to a honda forum and start trolling there, we drive an IS because we are unique and have a lot more class than most. Lets show it.

I know its an old post, but I felt like I should give you guys some feedback. I've been in love with the is for over ten years and I finally got one. (One that needs a little work). I almost left forums altogether a few years ago, but on most, if you look hard enough you can find what you're looking for. I drove a Honda for many years and never found a good forum for technical info, and recently got into dirt bikes, and those forums are mostly garbage. But this forum is top notch. The "do a search" comment is the most conceited way to gain post count and I don't see it here too much. Mostly members will post a link to the original or best thread on the topic and most of the best are stickied. My faith in forums, due to the members here that have kept the passion alive until I could afford an IS300 of my own, has been restored and for that, I thank you.

Forums are like real life. 10% of the people know what they're doing and the other 90% are just hanger's-on.

The trick is to identify the 10%.

New member here..

I gotta say, I just came from Nasioc and the members over there are so much harsher on the "noobs". It almost makes you afraid to post because there will always be some A hole to make a rude comment. I do like the feel of this forum. It seems much more laid back. Something that I would expect from a lexus forum. Looking forward to my stay here!

11 years later this is still topical

I'm a 240sx and is300 owner and I can definitely say that there is a bit less to get flamed on about with an is than an s-chassis! So far I haven't posted much, but I appreciate the camaraderie here.

the reason i'm here is due to a good friend of mine. he told me about this site and he's someone i consider to be a "guru" in the automotive world. he used to actually be a member of this site and all this time he's been wanting an IS300...

anyway, he just got one and he mentioned to me this moring how he came back onto the site...i want to quote him on what he wrote but i don't want to make his email public knowledge. basically, what he's telling me is that he can't believe how the forums have changed.

you know what...screw it...this is from his email:

"I see posts where newbs are asking questions.. legitimate questions.. 90% of the time its some callous remark about doing a search first.. the other 10% of the time its something sarcastic.. rarely is it informational.. very rarely.. also, half the posts are "yeah.. I agree" or "^^ what he said".. its like.. dude.. where's the content ? occasionally I'll find a tidbit of good info.. but half the time, its just all BS.."

and you know what...he's right!!! this is a serious part of the forum here. the "Go Fast Stuff" forum i mean. do we really need the BS in here???

i know we all get mad at the newbs asking the same questions...but come on people...if you going to argue and bicker about STUPID crap...take it to the PL!!!

also, if there's a newb asking a legit question...treat them with a little more respect. be nice...unless of course they're rude too...then go flame for all i care.

BASICALLY, all i'm asking is for you guys to take the small talk, well mostly the fighting/name calling/stupid posts to the PL and post IS300 related stuff in here.

when i go into a new forum, i expect people to treat me nice and not jump down my throat...so please don't do the same here...PLEASE. this is how we start giving ourselves a bad rep...tone it down a bit or else we'll have to REALLY start moderating shiet!!!

Thanks for your attention...
Per the title of this thread, I took the time to read this. As a new guy I would like to say thank you. I only stick around on forums that treat me with the same dignity and respect that I'm prepared to bestow on fellow members. If I'm shunned or simply not shown at least a minor level of respect, I'll stick to lurking or quickly find another similarly dedicated forum, altogether. I'm sure I'm not the only person operating under this modus operandi.

Too often, people get caught up in post counts, community status, how long you've been a member, how many times they've seen/heard the same thing before etc...Unfortunately if forum community members rely heavily on these aspects within the site, it sets a very negative tone. After all, if we're not contributing to a solution, we just might be contributing to a problem. It can drive members away or help potential ones steer completely clear of a site due to negative image.

We have to always remind ourselves that there is a person on the other end of that computer that you might be insulting. Just because they're not right in front of us, doesn't give us the right to berate them for (insert stupid self-justified reason here). Someone who might just be a very respectable person and who could potentially contribute something great to his/her fellow members, may be on the other end. I have 12 years experience as a mechanic and 5 years as a shop owner. For my fellow man who shares the same interests as me (such as the is300) I'm willing to help in any way I can, from WAYYYY over here on the other end of this computer. If I can get you a better price on parts...I'll do it. If I know an easier way to do something, I'll tell you. If I know something that you don't, I will inform you if you're asking. If you live near me and need some helping fixing your ride, I'll do it. If you need your AC charged, I'm your guy. The point is, no one knows what the next user is, or isn't capable of contributing, until you give them the chance to.

Fortunately, it appears we have mods here with a clear vision, such as yourself, that wish to keep things on track. So here's to hoping that I've found a formidable topic specific forum home, here on the is300 forums.

I'm very new to car stuff and forums in general so I really appreciated this post! I will try and make sure I do my research before asking a question, as I realize it may have already been answered by others. But I am happy to be here! Just purchased a 2001 IS300 with 98k miles over the weekend, looking forward to learning how to do cool performance stuff to it.

I thought this thread was about a newbie wanting advice on an exhaust. I could have opened it sooner ;) (jk)

It seems to go in spurts where the gang mentality expands and then contracts. The forum was bad years ago nearer to the time of this post. I took a hiatus myself as a result for many years. Ultimately our time is more valuable and life better without adding in virtual squabbling.

Some people consistently play the role of devils advocate, some like pointing out spelling mistakes :) (I usually reserve my comments for zero punctuation and zero spelling in really long posts since no sense can be made), some people get offended too easily, some cross the line to attack people personally too quickly, some try to start post #1 with the 'i'm better than everyone, ever' attitude and wonder why they don't get anywhere,... etc.. It's definitely a learning process for people with different opinions to try and find common ground on a point. For me, I usually just move on to the next topic when I don't agree. I don't need to take the time to prepare a report, citing all references on why I disagree anymore. Also, I try not to take so much of it personally, or give a sh-t if it is personal, and may even admit a mistake once in a blue moon

I joined in Feb 2002. Back then the site was an invaluable resource. I discovered G2 Caliper paint, custom decals for my calibers, and even the Japanese OEM compartment (for those of us with no NAV). Never once did I have an issue getting help. Then - the Internet changed. The issue described in this thread is one that I see on countless message boards. There is no book on msg board etiquette. I wish there was but in the mean time I applaud the OP for speaking up.

Hell yeah. Nice post. I've been a semi-noob as far as the go-fast stuff, and I've basically just done cosmetic/quality of life mods to my red 1st gen IS. I wish there were more thorough and recent posts about the go-faster shit as that's what I'm more interested in now. Posts like this one do nothing but help. Thanks man.
