It's the Auto-AC-ON feature that Car Mags wanted. Should be part of the climate control, they said.

The car mags are stupid if they think this was a bonus. Every time I turn my heat on I've got to turn the AC off. What kind of convienence item is that?

It's an annoyance.

One more thing,
The 2001 model did not have that annoying "feature", for which IS300 was critisized for.

That feature can be disabled by the dealer through options programming. The dealer will claim to have no knowledge of such capability, but it's there, as well as 4 door unlock with one push of a button and earlier auto lights-on adjust.

I always run the A/C with the heat, why is that an annoyance? Try it.

because with the AC compressor running, you lose horsepower and waste gas. And if you have the heater on, the only thing you gain is lower humidity.

That's a separate option that can also be changed.
