Will this be a good tire size for an 8.5" wide rim? I just ordered a set of rear tires and i just wanted to confirm that it will fit. Thanks in advance.

I had 255/35/18s on my car (18x8.5 with 42 offset) with Hotchkis drop, I was rubbing during bumps. I had to switch it back to 235s. I am trying to get rid of my 255s, if you need a pair let me know! ;)

I think he's not askine about rubbing, just if it's a good size for the RIM ITSELF. (yes, it is btw).

I would get 255/30/18 if I were you.
I dont think there is a size, but I might be wrong. 255/35 is the only way to go, you wouldnt be able to find a tire size to match up in the front with overall diameter.

255 wide on a 8.5" wide wheels is fine, but should not go any wider than a 255 wide tire. I ran a 255/35/18 on my Volks CE28n 18x8.5.
