The only key I had broke in the casing. A locksmith made a new key but it doesn't start my car. Apparently, there are two transponders in the key but the original broken casing is now gone.
Is this really the case?
If so, can Lexus make a new key for my car using the VIN number?

First off, hopefully that locksmith didn’t charge you for making a key that doesn’t work. Secondly, he should know that it needs to be programmed to the car in order to work. Thirdly, if he doesn’t know that or he still charged you for a key that doesn’t work, you should complain and find a new locksmith.

Contact Sewell Lexus in Dallas www.sewell.com 214-352-8100 they make Lexus keys and will answer your questions. I bought a key shell for my car from them ~11 years ago after the shell broke - they have the best prices on lexus key components. I transferred the guts from my old shell (which had door unlock button and stuff like that) so I didn't have any issues; it worked perfectly and at half the cost the Lexus dealer locally quoted.
