Would you ever be the owners of a first model year car again? I have an '01 and many times I wish I waited for the '02 because of the minor changes that were made... such as the painted brake area (mine is so rusted), the added trim, arm rest, and black chromes.

I'm thinking of getting another car that is a first model year and was interested in opinions.

It doesnt really bother me. Whenever you buy a car you are eventually going to wish that you had waited an extra year. Every car has subtle changes year after year. I am just happy that I have it and to me it looks just fine the way it is. It all really comes down to your own situation and likes and dislikes.

the way I look at it..

the 2001 IS 300 is the CLOSEST in comparison to its originator, the Altezza....

when I got mine May of 2002, I got it used with low mileage, and I knew it was the car that I expected to keep for a very long time.....

each year, the IS has become more and more Lexus.....whether thats good or bad, to each their own....

I think this really is a tuner's dream car right now in my honest opinion....

plenty of different aftermarket body parts and we are blessed to have such a modifiable motor with the 2JZ......

We are the epitamy of the "Ricer's dream"....they wish they had an IS, so they settle for the tail lights.....

of course I like to keep it tastefully done......

here is the evolution of my IS, built 8/2000

before and after shot of my car

for the brake and rotars thing where u said urs were rusted, all you have to do is take it to your local dealer and they will paint it either black or silver. They have done it twice for me for free just at my last two services.

Tried this... twice... and they give me the whole "thats normal" excuse... because well, it is normal.

I don't really have the facilities to do that.... I live in an condo complex. I'm selling the IS in January anyway, so I'm not gonna worry about it.

Not sure yet.... something more modest I think... perhaps a Mazda3(which is why I started this topic of new model year cars), Altima or maybe a used 4Runner. I want something with low insurance and lower payments so I don't feel guilty about never driving the thing. I haven't touched the IS in about 2 weeks.

I have NO regrets buying my 01. BTW arent the engines on the 01 stronger than later models. I know someone checked the the diff in the connecting rods and the 01 were thicker and stronger made for example, this translate to potentially longer engine life.

No regrets. I don't consider the 2001 a "first year" model since the Altezza has been proven in other countries and the engine is not a new thing. If it were truely a first year model I might have waited...but then again, Lexus is not the kind of company that really likes to "experiment" with products that might disappoint.

I'm still happy with my baby...and happy I got SBM because that color was only for 2001!

had i have enough money to have another daily driver then I would love to have the 1st year IS. But sadly my 2001 is my everyday driver and i must beat it to death and put miles on it. I'm glad i got the 01, just knowing that you got yours before most. But it really doesnt' mean anything if you can't keep it up in premier condition.
