Hi Lexus lovers!!! My local dealer in NJ just gave me the "hot
off the
press" brochure for the 2001 GS. Here are the changes......The 4.3
liter
engine still has 300 HP but comes in at a lower 5600 RPM vs. 6000 for
the
current 4.0 liter engine. The torque goes from 310 at 4000 RPM to 325
at a
very low 3400 RPM. Gearing is the same. This should translate to
better off
the line performance, ( like it really needs it!!!).

The new colors are black cherry, which is a verrrrry dark red,
midnight
pine, which is a very dark green, blue onyz which is a very dark blue
and
mystic sea, which is a silvery green moss color. The interior colors
remain
as before.

The console has more wood on it and the steering wheel now has wood
on
part of the wheel.

There is a killer Mark Levinson Audio system package with 10
speakers and
240 watts of undistorted power.

There are HID lights standard on the GS430 and a compass on the
rear view
mirror.

The grill has fewer vertical bars and they are silver now as
compared to
black on the previous GS. The GS 16" wheel now has 6 spokes instead
of 5 ,
but the 17" wheels remain, which is fine by me.

Lastly, the rear tailights have a slighly different configuration,
but
look basically the same to me.

According to the brochure, which by the way has some beautiful
pictures
in it, leads us to believe that the suspensions are all the same on all
models, with the wheels being the only option you can get. I guess the
"L"
series coming out later will have trick suspensions and better gearing
to
compete against the BMW "M" series.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the 4.3 engine qualifies for ultra low
emissions and therefore you do not get the steering wheel mounted shift
buttons, but now you can get them on the GS300. Go figure.

Cars will be available in about 3-4 weeks, and prices seem about
the
same, but of course, the option packages will drive them up.

Lastly, there are some verrrry attractive female models used in
some of
the pictures, so we can guess that Lexus is targeting this car mostly
to
guys. To the ladies in our group, I hope you do not find this sexist.

My dealer is already pushing me to lease a new GS430 when my
current
GS400 lease comes due in 2 months. Allocations are tight you
know....(salesman speak)

So ladies and gentlemen, hop on down to your friendly dealer and
get the
brochure, and build your dream cars.

By the way, for the first time I really examined a black on black
IS 300
and it is stunning in this color. I especially like the dash and
console
treatment. Very avant garde and ahead of its time. The Audi TT also
has a
killer interior if you like that kind of look.

Can't wait to drive the new 430 and compare to the "old" GS400.
