Guys,
I need some help/info please. My wife's IS300 is due the 15k oil change/service, she was at the dealership today having 2 bent wheels replaced (under warranty thank goodness) and they mentioned she needed to set up an appt. for the 15k service. She mentioned that I was going to take care of it at an Express Oil that I use for the oil changes (synthetic, I bring my own oil and filters) on my 99 Cobra, so I trust these guys. First off, the dealership quoted her almost $300 for the service, which I though was laughable. I know what they do, I read the owners manual this morning. Second, he told her any other place might not have the tools to get the oil pan plug out with and that if anything came up (he mentioned specifically the transmission) later and on their records they didn't do the service schedule called for, they might not repair/replace anything under warranty.

Anybody out there changed their own oil/took it someplace besides a dealership and if so, was any special tool needed to drain the oilpan? I plan on buying synthetic oil and either a Mobil 1 or K&N filter(if I can find one). Any suggestions on oil/filters?

Thanks in advance...

I believe they were bent when it was delivered, the car never held an alignment. The dealership missed the bend wheels at both the 5k and 10k service, they hedged at first thinking we had hit something to bend the wheels (we haven't) but after I pointed out they had rotated/balanced/aligned the car twice and didn't catch the bends, they agreed to replace both wheels and re-imburse us for the cost of 2 new tires.
