tar-ox calipers? what tires(and wheels) are you running on currently?
  2. Dba 4000xs Rotors

dba's big in australia.. hence their name... disk brake australia. reputable company last time i heard. looks like they coated the rotors to prevent it from the rusting (the braking surface will always rust but atleast the hubs wont.. unlike my brembo replacements, which rusts like there's no...
  3. Brake Bake, or broil...

    Stop, Drop and Roll
i'd actually have to look at the pads to have better idea of what's going on though... take the pads out and post pics. shouldnt take no more than 15min per corner..
  4. Brake Bake, or broil...

    Stop, Drop and Roll
i agree w/ inspar8. from what i can see, the pad overheated and glazed like a pottery would in a kiln. then small chunks came off and stuck onto the rotor like an artist's soft eraser would on a paper. some of it might have dug into the rotors, scoring it, because the pad material will have most...
  5. EBD does not have to mean ABS kicks in too soon.....

    General Discussion
all model year is300s have EBD. mine is 2001 and it has EBD. what you think the EBD is actually BA (brake assist) 2001 models do not have BA but 2002 and on comes with BA. BA monitors the velocity of the brake pedal and if pressed too quickly, it thinks you're performing a panic stop. research...
  6. Getting sick of the Slotted/Drilled Rotors and their Issues!

    Stop, Drop and Roll
^^ i think you forgot to do the 'cooldown procedure' during your breakin. it's also a good idea to drive mildly on the rotors for couple hundred miles before doing the break-in so you grind off some post-manufacture residue.

17mm bolts... they come off easy with 2' breaker bar.. Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices or try those liquid wrench stuff or soak that mother with wd40. it's torqued up real high so impacting it to break it loose might be better than putting constant pressure. impact...
  9. Time for new Rotors and Pads need help

    Stop, Drop and Roll
thats the reason why i went with brembo blanks than OEM's. im not 100% sure wether brembo subcontracts their oem replacements to lesser no-name companies, but im sure with the nameplate like brembo, they'd be strict on their quality control. i recently bought those replacements from tirerack...

  11. Ground Control coilovers: need opinions

    Stop, Drop and Roll
this shouldnt be too hard actually. all you have to do is measure the distance/angle of all suspension hard points and solve some simple trig problems(kinematics) as long as you take measurements cautiously, i think you can get it to accuracy with couple of milimeters(+-4mm imo) with nothing...
  12. Ground Control coilovers: need opinions

    Stop, Drop and Roll
i agree with you on the most part, but i have some reservations on what you're saying. what we're discussing here is trying to find decent spring/damping rates without resorting to pre-prescribed rates. i have a couple of questoins here. how does preload affect handling performance? to my...
  13. Ground Control coilovers: need opinions

    Stop, Drop and Roll
interesting idea. that might just work afterall. that will nullify(not cure) the understeery fronts by making rear tires approach the limit of adhesion sooner(thereby alowing the car to rotate and not push the car straight). one thing to consider with higher spring rate at back is that, as u...

i have a relatively positive opinion on the GC setup, because with that, you can easily match the springs/dampers to your likings, without resorting to big bucks. i remember when this forum just started, a fellow IS'er used GC coilover setup using their customized dampers(advance-design, iirc)...

i think these are second gens because the 1st gens were of lower spring rates. 12kg/mm 9kg/mm i think. jp or tw made.. how do i check that? the box is sealed up and ready to go. i don't wanna open it up just to check it.
  16. Corner Balancing Questions

    Stop, Drop and Roll
well... i think there's a slight misunderstanding of what corner-balancing is. corner balancing is done so the car turns left as good as right, visa versa. this is achieved by getting the cross weight to be near 50%. meaning: Front Left + Rear Right ~= FR + RL ~= 50% obviously, there's slight...

it's been a while since i bought it. never had time or enthusiasm to install it. yeah, im taking a huge loss but im in a market to buy a new car so i'm selling it. i figured $1800 box sitting in the corner of my house is more or less equal to $1800 worth of nothing, so i'm going to recoup the...
