  1. IS vs. Z3

    General Discussion
Yup, just like vr6 and Dtew said. Weight, gearing, and the AUTO is what slows down your IS vs the Z3. Coefficient of drag will play a role, but a small one, at least to 60 mph. It has a greater effect on HIGH SPEEDS (for ex, top speed) than a 0-60 sprint.
  2. is300 vs 5th generation prelude

    General Discussion
Yup, the 5 sp Prelude should be a tad quicker in a straightline. Better than drag racing, why don't you race one on a curvy mountain road or at a track or something? That should be an interesting race...Both are capable handlers, and I'd like to give the IS a slight edge on this one.
  3. Real PICS of Sportcross and IS300 Manual

    General Discussion
Love that new interior... Well ckolsen, let's hope you're right and that the shifter is short-throw and precise a-la Honda (and BMW). That would be an easy car enthusiast's choice. Oh yeah, and hopefully the price won't go up that much, if any.
  4. NOT THAT THIS ISN'T BEING BEAT TO DEATH, but here is another

    General Discussion
    Yup, another thanks.
  5. 5 speed will have 18in wheels too!

    General Discussion
That's great news!! I myself don't like the design of the 18s that much either (too many spokes), and in fact prefer the current 5 spoke design. However, it's great that they are an option! 1600 manual cars isn't that many to sell, so that shouldn't be a problem for Lexus.
  6. 2001 M3 suffers first loss......details

    General Discussion
That was a modified 'vette, by the way.
  7. Finding a low price in the Bay Area

Amei_fan's suggestion is great. Try it out.

  9. A CAR YOU'LL NEVER SEE ME DRIVEN'

    General Discussion
Honda makes excellent cars, esp. in the engine (VTEC), suspension (double-wishbones), and excellent gearbox (short, precise, and crisp throws). Believe it or not, those Civics are more fun to drive than a comparable Corolla, so don't put down Honda. There's a reason they are the best selling...

  11. IS For Sale

    General Discussion
29800 is a great price, since it is loaded. MSRP should be around $34k +- 1K, right?
  12. C320 vs 330i..... Great Comparison Charts.....

    General Discussion
    Thanks smra...Great info!
  13. Car and Driver Comparison Test

    General Discussion
MT Car of the Year applies only to American cars. They also have Import Car of the year, so the IS would compete for this one instead.
  14. IS300....MB C320.....BMW330i Sedan....Acura CL Type S.....Sa

    General Discussion
Thanks DtEW for the corrections on the hypothetical limiterless case. It's a little difficult to determine the order in this case, since GEARING (to prevent redline limits), HP (to make enough power in the high end), and CD (help cut through the wind) play the biggest roles in top speed. Your...
  15. January C&D... 325 beats IS..

    General Discussion
Well said, AntiCt...Some other cars with excellent manual transmissions are Honda cars (read: NSX, Integra, prelude). Very short and precise throws.
  16. IS300....MB C320.....BMW330i Sedan....Acura CL Type S.....Sa

    General Discussion
    In stock form, I'd say: 1) CL-S 2) IS300 3) MB320 and 330i (tie, governed to 128 mph). Without governors, MB320, 330i, CL-S, IS300.
  17. January C&D... 325 beats IS..

    General Discussion
Not too nitpick here, but to the comment about C&D being biased against Japanese automakers, that's definitely not true. Look at their 10 best list. 2 out of the 10 are HONDA products, couple of American cars, and several German cars.
  18. Lexus IS 300 or BMW 325i

    General Discussion
You're absolutely right, CarFanMan and polobee. However, I think the original poster wanted to compare automatic to automatic. If this is the case, the IS300 would be the quicker and more powerful car. However, in manual form, the 323/325 will slightly outrun the IS to 60 and to the 1/4...
  19. 1/4 times ?

    General Discussion
Well, yeah, but it also has handling that is comparable to the best compact sports sedans available in the US. (read BMW 3 series, Contour SVT, etc)
  20. new integra is here...WOW

    General Discussion
I agree with Geoff...The tailight design resembles more of the previous generation Integra than anything else. However, it does still have a touch of IS300 (slightly clear and round circles) and some BMW (the lower round edges, which is also present in the front headlamps of the BMW 3er).
