theraflu The Cusco is not SCCA or NASA approved. A lot of smaller organizations use their general rules so pretty much useless. The Gridlife rule book specifically lists Cuscos as "show pieces" therefore inadequate. Also if you look at the A pillar angle... does not inspire confidence.

Looks good man!

humbucker87 I've just never heard good things about the Cusco cages. There's something about the design too that doesn't seem well triangulated and thought out for maximum roll over protection.

Had a fun two days at the track last week. New mods since the last track day were Hotchkis sway bars, Bridgestone RE71R front tires, and the Megan racing catless midpipe.

I have to admit I love being the only Lexus at a track day

First day was on VIR Full Course:

Second day was VIR Grand:

mesooohoppy why would you not pass inspection with a cusco cage? do they not have the proper safety ratings?
10-31-2018 08:15 AM
theraflu Yeah, no thanks on the Cusco. Never passing a tech inspection with that. But I will check out his build thread.

OP, thanks! Heard lots about Autopower but hard to see IS specific application because none really tracks the IS, although that seems to be changing...

humbucker87 Doing my best Nik Romano impression 🙂 I'll actually be at the track in two days for the last time this year. New Hotchkis sways since last time.

The roll bar is the Autopower Race bar with 'options'. Basically meaning it has the removable harness and cross bar. Great product. Very well built. No offense to cusco but this is the one you want if you're looking for actual safety not just looks.

Fig Great job, always great to see an IS hitting the track.

usrocket Love Konig wheels, very under rated for the performance bargain and cost.

humbucker87 Thanks man. I definitely hope to see you up there at some point. Yeah I usually side with running more aggressive pads than necessary, if anything.....then flat spotted my tires first time out so maybe not the greatest plan.

I've been back once since that weekend with a decent bit more modifications done and was able to take about 4 seconds off my time. Overall the car feels great. Would love more power, but I don't think I have any plans to go turbo or anything like that.

The total list for this vid is:
- DNA Motoring Header
- HPS Intake
- Chopped stock exhaust with turn down (stock midpipe)
- RB 4045 Front BBK w/ DTC-30 pads
- 17x8+35 Konig Rennform Wheels with 225 Kumho V720 Rear and 225 Hankook RS-4 Front
- Fortune Auto 500 Coilover w/ 14k F and 12k R
- Figs Adjustable Endlinks front and rear
- Autopower Roll Bar
- OMP WRC-XL Seats w/ Planted Brackets

quicksilver31 Enjoyed your videos, VIR is a great track. Excited to see a fairly stock Is300 turn a mid 220s lap. I have done 30 + track days with 4 different vehicles. Reciengly I ran my daily, a 04 auto at CMP and CMS. Hope to get up to get up to VIR this year.
I run the hawk HP pads but feel they are lacking. I pushed them anyway and overheated them and boiled my brake fluid.
Will be following. Hope to see you at the track.

humbucker87 Thanks man! I reset the ABS ECU DTC codes. I think they happened because of the Brake Assist sensor + conditions. I'll definitely be looking for a way to delete Brake Assist without having it trigger this again if I can help it.

IS300 Track Debut

Finally got to take my IS300 to the track. Overall the car did great. The car definitely likes to push if anything, but for a completely stock suspension I was pleasantly surprised. I have been doing trackdays and some wheel to wheel racing for a few years in various cars and I'm excited to slowly develop this car over time.

Mods:
HPS Intake
DNA Header
Manzo Catback (but I removed the muffler section and just put on a turn down for the track)
Supra TT Front Calipers w/ Hawk Street/Race Pads
EBC Yellow Rear Pads
Konig Rennform 17x7.5 +35 Wheels
Kumho V720 225/45

Unfortunately in the second to last session my ABS/TRAC/Brake lights came on. It didn't concern me all that much as I figured it was a sensor of some kind. Like an idiot I disregarded the fact I didn't have ABS for my last run and decided to push my braking zones a bit further and ended up flat spotting my front tires a bit coming into turn 1 Live and learn I suppose.
