spyfi Wow. This is a great forum indeed. I wasn't expecting such good and quick feedback about the questions I raised.

gwl - in the Saris Bones 3 rack that you used to have (to prevent the bikes from banging) did you put both bikes in the "slots" closer to the glass of the tailgate, like "bike-bike-empty slot", or did you alternate the bikes, like "bike-empty slot-bike"?

Is the visibility of the license plate and taillights a problem where you live?

gwl With the roof rack, I bought an used Saris roof rack that fits perfectly if you find the correct clips. Saris does not make roof racks anymore, they only make hitch and trunk racks. I also used the Saris Bones 3 rack that can carry three bikes. I wouldn't mount three bikes but with two bikes you should be fine without the bikes banging together.

My friend is using my old Saris trunk rack that is clipped on the plastic trim on his hatch. No problems for three years carrying two bikes - the plastic trim is still holding up.

spyfi Thank you for the quick reply.
Thatīs great news.
I was becoming worried because in a Saris fit guide from 2007 that I stumbled across it says that the Saris Bones 3 (and Bones 2 as well) does not fit the Sportcross.
I wondered if it was for the same reasons of Thule's racks (in their fit guide of 2014 it says that their racks - some are similar to Saris - are not recommended for the Sportcross because top straps should not be mounted directly to glass or plastic trim covering glass and cannot be mounted in a safe place).

But there's nothing like combat experience to prove them wrong!

By the way, and since I'm in Europe and over here license plate and tail lights should be visible at all times (and cops bother you if they don't), do you have any picture of your Saris mounted with bikes on?
If you don't can you take a picture from the rear the next time you go for a ride? That would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is still rocking. I just used it a few weeks ago. I recommend it very highly, especially because it has big rubber feet that protect the car. No damage that I've noticed.

Brad Bedell Thanks! I'm glad to see it's available. However $327! Gak! I think I'll break out the plasma cutter, grab some scrap plate and modify the mazda hitch and pocket the extra 300bux.

Brad Bedell Where does one find a trailer hitch for the SX? I have a hitch mount on my Mazda 3 currently, but when the SX is finally repaired next month and sell the Mazda, I'll need a hitch for the SX.

lafingguy I went to the trouble of ordering a set of Gita roof rails.
https://my.is/forums/showthread.php?t=131418
The rails are always on but I pop the racks off when I'm not using them.
There is not really any more wind noise and fuel economy hasn't suffered either.
As noted in the thread, the Yakima towers I got were chewing the [email protected] out of my door seals.
The rails aren't cheap (~$700 delivered) but well worth it IMHO.
