Automatic transmission flush DIY

Hello guys! Have been planing to do a transmission flush myself, because i have read that using a machine can potentially ruin my transmission. So i found a few videos on disconnecting the returnpipe from the radiator, connect some 3/8 hose and put it a bottle. First drain the dirty transmission oil (about 2 quarts) from the sump. Add 3 quarts of new oil. Turn the engine on, and purge 2 quarts in the bottle, stop and add 2 new quarts. Repeat until the oil is nice and red. Then finish with adding only 1 quarts. My question is, when starting the car, should i be in park or neutral in order for the oil to start flowing?

Idleing in Park. Do it with two people so if it starts to run out of fluid you can shut it off quicker.
