Pi 3 as head unit replacement

Figure I post this one up, since Ill be planning on pulling this one off over the summer.

Yanked out the headunit (need space for switches/toggles, commander. wideband display, etc) and I want to swap in a Pi 3 and use it as bluetooth music player for the cars stereo.

Few things...

1. Straight power from ACC? 12v from acc is too high for the pi, also not trying to tap into lighter power (since phone will be powered via there).

2. Probably just possible to break out the standard headphone jack out for amp input and power everything from there normally.

Anyone else done this yet? Need a zero space head unit pretty much so I can blast stuff while I shred.
