Does anyone know if these wheels are painted or powder coated. I thought they were just painted but another member told me rays are powder coated. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Also what was the difference in length on the extended tip L-tuned muffler? Lexus is the one who extended these or is this something owners did?

The extended exhausts came like that from TRD/Toyota. It's about 2" longer so that when you have the L-Tuned rear valence installed it protrudes from the body further to prevent any burning of the lip. You can get away with the standard tip exhaust as well; I didn't find any scoring or burning when I had it.

As for the wheels I don't know. I always assumed it's powder coated.
However Rays does it is how it is.

L Tuned Wheels

Does anyone know what the story behind a possible 17 inch version of the L Tuned rims by Rays. I have seen the 18 inch versions here and there but most recently I noticed a set of 17 inch L Tuned wheels in silver with the Lexus Center Caps that have the blue surround.

Never an official 17" L-Tuned wheel for the IS300. It was only 18" and only the Rays Versus SS7 model.

Rays offered the same wheel in different sizes, colours and bolt patterns. The centercaps can be removed or obtained separately and put on any one of these easy enough. That's probably what you're looking at.

However, there were other "L-Tuned" wheels available... The L-Tuned Superturismo (google it) ... made by OZ and for the GS series L-Tuned. I'm not sure if these were officially L-Tuned but there are enough references out there to say they are.

Re: L Tuned Wheels

Thanks for the tip. Those OZs look so sweet.

I went ahead and took a closer look at the ones being offered on CL. They had all the correct markings and were indeed 18 inch. Paid 300 for the set which is only missing one center cap, which I then bought a whole set for on ebay for 40. So by the looks of it I have 340 in the wheels as they set plus another 150 or so for a total refurbish job. Nice to have alternating Rays wheels sets!

Got a question on the l-tuned exhaust. Are there any markings on it to identify it as authentic? I bought one awhile ago (was told it was l-tuned) but don't remember seeing any markings on it.

Just picked up an L Tuned last week. This has been a great thread and thank to everyone who contributed. Looks like the previous owner had the skirts mounted with screws underneath which makes me angry-but from what I have read, it's damn near impossible to find the mounting clips that I have read on the installation instructions.

So I was a previous IS300 owner with aspirations to own an L-tuned IS300 in the near future. Either that or buy a regular IS300 and buy major upgrades.

I have a couple questions about how I can achieve this goal.

1. How difficult is it to find an L-tuned IS300? I live in Canada but don't mind making the trip to the States if need be.

2. What's the availability of L-tuned parts? I'm looking to replicate the driving feel of the L-tuned IS300, so I'm thinking suspension, body kit, muffler, and wheels. Don't care for the badges, floor mats, etc.

3. What's the opinion on replica L-tuned parts? Are they good enough to replicate the feel?

I would really like to make this happen as this is a car I'd like to keep around for my lifetime.

I think L-Tuned IS300's were only sold in California?

If I were you I would just get a regular IS300 and mod it the way you want. I hate when people get a car and try to only put OEM or in this case TRD or L-Tuned parts on their car, especially when there is better out there....

I have to agree with Jerm.
Don't limit yourself on what you can do to your car.
Plenty of different parts to buy for the IS.

Too many people try to impress others and build their car to what they know someone will like.
You lose sight on what you like, when you simulate your likes around others dislikes.

I definitely respect your opinions and they make sense. But I've had my mind set on an L-Tuned IS300 for a long time, it isnt about getting 'better' parts for me. The things I definitely want are the L-Tuned suspension/sways, muffler, and body parts. May someone please answer my questions I posted above? Thanks for the replies so far!
