I am willing to pay good money as long as pricing is reasonable.
I guess it all come down to how bad someone wants something!!!!!!

I don't say it in that spirit though.

What I'm saying is.....if you really want something you go out and get it. If you are worried about paying what the market deems a fair price then you really do not want it all that much. If you are just tight on money, it's cool, but then you might just have to look at something more within your budget. If it NEEDS to be an IS300 it may be an auto. If it NEEDS to be a manual it may not be an IS300. I guess I just don't see the point in whining about something that you cannot do anything about.

Well, examples exist. Supply and demand definitely factors here. They are hard to find and when you do find them they are going to be expensive.

So /thread?

Pick two:

-cheap
-low mileage
-stock/unmolested/clean title

Mine was cheap and stock, but it had over 200k, needed some TLC and a lot of overdue maintenance. I didn't care since I do all my own work and was planning on modifying the car.

Not tight on money at all, sellers just need to sell me a car at a reasonable price. I'll pay the manual tax, but it can't be overcharged. I had someone who was selling me a 160k mile car with neglect damages and he still wanted 10k for it. Sorry, I can find a better car on BaT.

In fact, I pick one: stock/unmolested/clean title. I really don't care about the miles on the car as long as every history is documented and the car is well looked after for. I have a good sizeable budget, as long as pricing is reasonable. 0 miles on the odometer? I'll pay close to MSRP. One owner car? I'll pay more. One history of accident? Sorry, price for me drops a bit. No history of accident? I give the seller more.

Simple. Sell me a stock unmolested clean car, I'll pay the fair price.

It's not that simple. While YOU get to choose what a fair price is to YOU; you don't get to choose what "the market" thinks is a fair price. You do, however, get to choose whether or not to buy.

Based on your comments so far, it doesn't seem like both you and the market agree on the value of these cars.

But, there's hope! Keep your eyes peeled and jump on one where the seller doesn't know "the market" and prices the car according to NADA or KBB, which undervalue these cars significantly.

uhm yeah, already took a look at KBB and NADA. I'm willing to pay 30% of what it says on those sites or more. I even put the criteria as excellent (3% of cars) and low miles. Yet the market jacks up the price by 70%-130%.

Pretty generic answer.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm not going to lowball anyone who's going to sell me their car. I'm more than fair, given that I am willing to pay manual tax or drift tax or whatever tax you guys want to call it, just like new car dealerships overpricing their MSRP priced cars and call it "market adjustment". Just wait for that to happen when the new Supra came out, just like when the BRZ limited edition came out or when the Kia Stingers came to the US market. In fact, it's still happening to the new Civic Type Rs.

Selling me a beat up, riced to hell, high mileage car that costs 2x more than a clean, unmolested, low miles, stock automatic car screams greed and "I know what I got." I'm sorry, but whoever pays that much for that kind of condition of a car I feel sorry for them. That won't even fly if you attempt to post that kind of car on Bring a Trailer. Might as well buy a riced out Civic or BRZ/86. Mods shouldn't increase value of your car most of the time. Try doing that with your insurance company when they total your car out, I guarantee you that they will not pay you more than what KBB and NADA says, and they are basing your car on this stupid site called "CCC".

So what exactly is the point of this thread?

You're unwilling to pay the market price for a clean manual IS and you're surprised you can't find something in your price range?

If you want the car, pay for it. If you don't, then compromise. But making forum threads whining about how optioned out 15-20 year old cars in good condition are hard to find is kind of redundant. We all know that well-kept manual IS300s are uncommon and getting rarer by the day, so you have to pay a little extra for it. Supply and demand.

And FYI, KBB and NADA are very very wrong.

02 IS300 GGP - manual w/ LSD, full leather, nav, 204k miles

Suspension: Hotchkis springs + anti roll bars
Exhaust: Megan headers, Megan Y, HKS Carbon Ti
Brakes: EBC YellowStuff, StopTech SS Lines, Motul 600
Tires: Bridgestone RE71r
Cooling: Innovate Motorsports oil pressure + temp gauge
Lighting: Smoked side markers + fogs, LED interior + accent lighting
Misc: FIGS CDD, auto-TRAC off mod, Android nav-tablet retrofit

Honestly don't mind paying a premium, but if I do get in an accident, insurance will most likely go off KBB or NADA, not the REAL market price as you're seeing now. You see where I'm getting at. It happened to me before, I had a nice old Lexus that looked like it came off the showroom because I detailed it every 2 weeks. Basically I babied it. When I got rear ended, the insurance totaled it and the payout was lowball. Since the accident, that's why I'm in the market for the IS. Particularly the first gen IS because I have a fond for them. I can easily find a second gen IS250 manual that isn't riced out and well kept. In fact, one was being sold at my local CarMax lot, pricing was fair. Pricing for the IS300 manual is on an overinflated value; at that price point, I rather get a Mustang, Camaro, or BRZ/86 for a much better deal and even below my budget.
