Just so i am clear, did you adjust your shims or can you just throw those cams in and the clearances still match the OEM cams?

Hmm, makes me wonder just how good of a deal I got when I got my generic 5 bolt adjustable 2JZ ECG for only $15 shipped

Shim clearances were checked.

None are loose - one is a little tighter but still within spec.
- Essentially plug and play.

I wish, but I didnt have a dyno done prior to the install so nothing to readily compare.

Plus, after all this work its not like were talking a ton of added HP. So I am not sure what the real before and after difference will be other than an audible one or as most say here the "Butt Dyno".

From other people's reviews, it seems like it simply will make the car a bit more peppy.
- I am more curious to see if the VVTI will improve - albeit when it kicks in it has always been a negligible difference but the VVTI Solenoid was cleaned and VVTI Cam Gear completely replaced with a new OEM one. - For whatever reason, I started to feel a real dip in the powerband in 4th gear around 3K prior to the install - would like to see the powerband there improve.
- Eventually, I'd like to get rid of my wheel spacers as theyre simply adding to more unsprung weight.

Some smaller wheels would have also been a more proactive approach as well; but seeing as I purchased the wheels years ago I lacked any longterm vision of this car.

I hear ya. I'd love to get more oomph out of the turns. but I've gotta work on the suspension more since more power will make things even worse with the current setup yeah, I've gotta run adapters since my track tires are on 5x100 wrx wheels... looking to go 245/40 on 17x9 +35 or 255 if it'll fit

what wheel/tire do you have? track, street, drag? just wondering 😊

Closing out this thread.

Replacement of the Water Pump and Installation of the BC Cams was a success. It was nice seeing all the old rusted parts come off and get a few bolt-on mods going down at the same time.
- The only real unforseen was replacing the OBX Underdrive Pulley with a Fluidampr one - not cheap but in the end it was money well spent.
- Now using some break-in oil for the next 200 miles before I open her up and see how she really sounds.

For now, the HKS Adjustable Gear has been set at 0į - just for the initial break-in period.
- Then I hope we can retard it a little and get some more lopes. Haven't really reved the car but the exhaust sounds a bit more crackely under low revs. (Trying not to exceed 4K RPM)

Does anyone know if the Megan Mid-pipe's resonator section adds more rasp?
- I'm sure a majority is coming from the Headers but Wondering If I should delete that section of the megan racing mid-pipe? Thoughts?

Thanks for the support everyone!

surely you've seen this before? it allows you to verify what your gear is set at.

it also allows dirt and junk to enter the timing belt and gears and pulleys...

I have seen it left exposed, but usually it's just with the cover off or something exposing both gears, I've never seen it cut perfectly like that. I guess I never thought I had to cut mine to verify the gear. I set it, and forget it.

yes of course, im just saying its still popular among jzx owners who want to show off their shiny cam gears. also along the lines of people not putting filters on their turbos or ITBs.
