*New to IS300's* Brake Light Issue

Hey y'all, My names Robert and I'm from Iowa. I just picked up a 5spd 2002 Is300 tonight and I only get brakelights when I press the brake pedal no matter what position the headlight switch is in. Do they have dual filament bulbs for the tail-lights or is there something I should be aware of? Sorry for kind of a dumbass question but I'm just curious of things to look for when I go dig into it tomorrow. Much obliged!

Welcome to the forum however I am confused...

If I am reading this right - you get brake lights when you apply the brake? So what seems to be the problem?

Welcome, Yes duel filament. Replace the bulb. If that does not fix it. Check the socket and wiring. Also check the fuses.

Yes I get lights when I depress the pedal, However when I was running down the highway last night I apparently had no driving lights on the rear.

Okay, I had found this thread so I have a general idea of what to do if the bulbs don't fix it.

Ok Got it. haha

I would follow SolarYellows lead on replacing the stock bulbs first.

Cheers!

Do you have ANY lights the come on with the first headlight switch turn? Like sidemarkers, plate lights, interior lights, city lights? They are all on the same fuse. If an aftermarket radio was installed at some point, that could have messed up the wiring for it.

Side markers come on, interior lights all work fine, Not sure what city lights are? And no the plate lights dont come on but I haven't verified that the bulbs are good or bad yet.

I have factory HID's so I'm unsure if mine has that? And if it does they are probably burnt out would be my guess.

Yes those are the city lights, the little bulbs in the low beam HID reflectors. The purpose of them is to provide some sort of night illumination on that side in case the HID goes out. Most cars use the turn signal area to do this, but the IS300 doesn't.

Update! Put in new bulbs for the rear and still have no rear running lights in the back period. No plate lights, no inner and outer tail lights, nothing. But when I stop they work fine except the plate lights.

Sounds like it will be a wiring issue.

Here's a video I took that kinda shows the problem, Talked to the previous owner who sold it to the guy I got it from, And he said that a month ago everything was fine except a ballast being out which I already knew.
