What are the advantages of a supercharger?


This is perhaps the biggest advantage that the supercharger enjoys over the tubo. A Supercharger is connected directly to the crank, so there is no "lag". Superchargers are able to produce boost at a very low rpm, especially screw-type and roots type blowers.

Back Pressure

Because the supercharger eliminates the need to deal with the exhaust gas interruption created by inserting a turbocharger turbine into the exhaust flow, the supercharger creates no additional exhaust backpressure.

Ease of Installation

Superchargers are substantially easier to install than a turbos because they have far fewer components and simpler devices. Turbos are complex and require manifold and exhaust modifications, intercoolers, extra oil lines, etc. - which is not needed with most superchargers. A novice home mechanic can easily install most supercharger systems, while a turbo installation should be left to a turbo expert.

Less Critical Engine management requirements.

With Turbo setups Tuning and engine management is critical to the longevity of the engine because everything happens so fast. A turbo builds boost very quickly, so the fuel supply needs to be adequate, and reliable. Should there be a problem such as a drop in fuel pressure, bad injector, and you run lean.. it is very easy to cause damage very quickly and you have little time to recognize the problem, and react accordingly

Tuning, and engine management system is also critically important or you an damage the motor under boost very fast and easily, again because the boost with a turbo builds so fast and power and torque are generally greater, there is more potential for a problem and less room for error, time to react to protect the motor from potential damage.

With Superchargers, everything happens slower and because boost is tied to RPM this makes it much easier to manage and tune for power and safety. You generally build power slower and have less power potential in general. But if something goes wrong you have more time to notice and react, lift, or shut down. If your tune is off tho you will produce less power you can run relatively safely Vs. risking damage.
