It looks like the white plastic piece connects to the phallic shaped cut out.

Edited: never mind, the white plastic piece connects to the external manual lock from the driver side and would be missing from the passenger side.

It looks like either way, one of the metal face piece has to rotate, and the latch sould release provided the mechanism is NOT locked. I would ensure it is not locked, then try play around with the pieces that will rotate to release the latch. I'm thinking you only dissemble the actuator, and the white plastic piece with that connects the phallic cut out and the exterior door handle. I don't see why you would actually dissemble the latch mechanism, so I think the latch should still work assuming you can pull on the right piece.

Now that I think about it, I vaguely remember you may be right, and the metal piece with the two holes may be for the lock.

I would swing it up, and try to rotate the gold piece. If that doesn't work, I think that means it is in the lock position, so I would swing it down and try to rotate the gold piece. I'm guessing if you can rotate the gold piece counter clock wise with the locks unlock, it should release the latch.

Johnny, thanks for all your help. I'm not sure if it was a different year or something...but My assembly doesn't look the same as that one from the OP's pics.. For example, I don't have a white plastic piece. Never had that part . My rod connected directly onto the gold piece with the phallic shaped cutout.

Yup! We are on the same page right now. Exactly. So I did exactly as you suggested. At both positions, I still can't get the latch to release... it just boggles my mind right now...

Updated. I just realise the white piece is for the external lock, which would only be present on the driver side. The phallic cut out is toward the top of the assembly.

It should have worked because really all the handles are just tugging on the gold piece to rotate. At this point I think we may have to wait on other members who has expertise on how lock works, as I really know nothing about locks.

So, with the lock unlocked, and a screw driver in the phallic cut out, and you pushing it down to rotate all the way CCW, it still won't releaes the latch?

I'm not convinced you can rotate the piece for the lock to unlock the latch with the plast plastic piece in the way?

If I were you, I would try to rotate the piece for the lock all the way CCW and take a pix to verify. I think the black plastic piece would have to be back in the correct hole for the lock to be not locking? I'm guessing it is still locked, but you couldn't rotate the piece anymore as it is hitting the black plastic piece from the actuator. If my theory is correct (via confirmation using pix), and the black plastic piece is in the way, I would try to loosen the actuator so that it can swing out of the way so that I can unlock the latch, then try to release it again.

I actually removed the actuator completely because it was getting in the way.. When I rotate the bottom silver piece all the way, it rotates counterclockwise AND the blue plastic piece moves all the way up as far as it can to meet with the top gold piece you can see it in my link

also this picture with the red circle...that's where the locking mechanism rotates over the latch i think?? i wonder if i can rotate that with pliers???

Have you tried putting the actuator back in with the black plastic nub sticking into the first hole, then try to use the interior manual lock/unlock and handles? I see no reason why that wouldn't work?

tried that ..didn't work... I can rotate the unlock/lock feature on the bottom.. when it's locked.. the blue piece is down...when I unlock it, the blue piece slides up. that's all the actuator does is move the bottom silver piece CCW and back..that's it.

I removed the actuator because It was getting in the way.

I don't see why it isn't working. I'm sorry, but I'm out of ideas as well. One last thing I would try is slid the rod back into the phallic cut out and use that to try to release the latch.

So I just spent a half an hour with the rod inside the gold piece and moving it around and could not release the latch... I swear... I've used up all my marbles... I'm thinking the next step is to just drill through the sucker... That's the only thing I can think of...

Sleep on it if you can. I've used up all my marbles as well. There must be something we've over looked, something simple, but it escapes us for now.
