Nice ride bro. That paint is immaculate. You ended up with a gem on your hands, a good base with lots of potential. Good luck on your turbo install.

Look what showed up today

Everything is there, except for the turbo itself, and the intake tube but I just got the tracking number for those today as well. So the complete kit should be here by next Monday

Well good for you lol

No seriously, i've read quite a few cases of members on here waiting years to get their stuff from SRT.

When did you originally place your order? I'd honestly be surprised if they're working on improving and minimizing turnaround times on orders and parts that are outside of the shop.

Thanks guys, and I actually ordered the kit back in May when they had the group buy going on.

Mo said the turbo kit would take 6-8 weeks to ship out after the group buy ended. It actually took 10 weeks, but I didn't have any problems getting updates from Mo. When I called he picked up, and he responded to my emails in a timely manner, normally within 3 days. In the end I waited about 3 months, so that's not bad compared to the usual wait time others have gone through.

So today I finally got tired of the melting dash issue in my car. When I first got the car the melting was minimal, and honestly it wasn't that bad compared to other IS300s I seen here in Texas.

The only part that was really bad was around the shift boot, near the A pillars and airbag cover. It was minor, but it still bothered me. I have the weekend off so I decided to remove the dash and take it to a upholstery shop to get refinished. I'm not painting it myself since I'm not sure how good I can get it to match the original finish.

Big thanks to madchyers, MY2J, and chris_hill for their DIY, really helpful in finding those hidden nuts and bolts.

It's honestly not as bad as you think, it only took me about a hour to remove the dash from the car. I probably could have gotten it out in 30 minutes, but I was being very careful to not damage anything and I wanted to make sure the airbag wouldn't go off.

Stripping off the soft touch material though... that was a whole different story. I spent almost 2 hours wiping that stuff off with acetone, and I still didn't finish. I just got enough off so that I could put it in another car without getting everything all black and sticky

Yeah the DIY made removing the dash look a lot easier than in the Corolla lol.

So you're stripping off all the old stuff, not just spraying over it?

Yeah I stripped off the old material because if you just spray over it you're probably just making it worst since the old melting material is still under it. Also the old sticky material was a mess and it looked like it got mauled by cats. It probably did since the previous owner had pets

Stripping off the material also helps the paint stick better once you prep the area for paint, but I'm sure you know that since you painted your car numerous times

Like I said I'm letting a shop handle it so I just removed as much as I could at home and I'm going to let the professionals handle it. The shop I went to said they deal with this problem all the time on Lexus and BMWs.

Ah, you're letting the pros do it. I figure I'll just buy a new dash or a 2001 on Ebay and paint that.
