Is the paint original or a respray?

If it's original, use a quality polish/compound for paint correction. I've had success with products from Griot's Garage and Chemical Guys.

If it's respray, and you know who did the work, go back to them and ask about their painting process (prep, paint manufacturer, etc.). They should be able to help you...

usually stuff like that can always be solved with buffing/polishing, if there's enough paint on there. I wonder why both sides are so different

try a good polish

There are many specific products to polish your car. I tried Ma-Fra products and they work perfectly.
They are leaders in Italy and their products are very good. If you want, you can try it. They also have a blog where you can find helpful tricks for washing and plishing your ride.
