2007 IS250 Headlight Trouble

My 07 IS250 passenger side headlight has been going out for the past couple weeks. While the car is still running if I turn the headlight switch to off and then back on, it comes back on. The car is out of warranty so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas???? I usually leave the headlights in the auto position. Don't think its a switch problem because only one light is being affected. Any help is highley appreciated, Thanks

Definitely sounds like a bad bulb and the other one is probably on its way out too, soon. You can try swapping the bulbs and see if the questionable ballast keeps the light on steady, but really it does sound like a bulb. Make sure to replace both as a set and to not touch the bulbs with your bare hands as the oils on your skin can ruin the life of the bulb. Swap em, see what happens, betting on a bulb tho.

You really think its a bulb? I can't see a bulb going out and then when you switch the power off and back on working again unless the fillament were broken and laying across the + and - terminals. I can only hope its that easy! Any other ideas. I was thinking maybe the ballast or some type of thermal protection switch. Any other ideas? Thanks again

If you have HID lighting which I'm assuming, then I think the bulb is at the end of life. HID bulbs do not use filaments, they have a gas filled tube that becomes "excited" when a couple thousand volts are across it. That's why you should never test for voltage at the socket. Bad ballasts generally never ignite the bulb, rarely do they cycle on/off as you have. That's why is suggest swapping one side with the other and see how the bulb reacts.

Thanks, now I understand your logic. I'll give it a try. Any tips on changing the bulbs? Looks like getting to the bulbs is quite a job.

Tips...yes, never touch the bulb with your bare hands as the oil on your skin can reduce the longevity or life of the bulb. Use a clean cloth to hold them and make sure they are clean when you install them. Also I takes about 30 seconds for them to come to full brightness, so allow it to come up to brightness and keep them on for awhile to see what happens.

I had the same issue. I took it to the dealer and they are adamant that it's the bulbs that need to be replaced. I don't want to pay $175 a bulb though. Headlight bulbs aren't covered under warranty anyway.

Anyone have some suggestions on bulbs? I bought some cheap ones on ebay and they look good but don't always fire up.

Try to get a good name brand set such as philips or sylvania. Besides eBay, try xenonsupply.com(not vouching)

I too have been having this problem with my 07 IS 250. Sometimes the right headlight will go out and other times the left one will. If I turn them off and turn them back on, they will be fine. I've read elsewhere that maybe it's the ballast? I don't want to replace headlight bulbs if that's not it. Any help would be appreciated!

Ya, replace them yourself. It isnt too hard of a job. Also, I think you can get replacement OEM bulbs from DDM for cheap. I would suggest doing both at the same time because HID bulbs tend to burn at a little different temp so if u replace one, it may look off.

I'd buy the Philips bulbs.
After replacing a burned out bulb, then the ballast, my new syvalina bulb went out after 2 min.... couldn't figure it out...

then popped in my old good bulb and it's working fine.
