Stock Rims - How wide a tire?

I've got lots of questions today, so this will be thread #2. I saw a 2009 IS250 yesterday in the parking lot of a golf course and the person parked beside me and I noticed he had some Lexus Rims but some really WIDE rear tires. They were 255 - 40 - 18 and 225 - 40 - 18 in the front.

I also have a staggered setup, but my rears are 245's. Anyone know if I could put 255's on the stock rim when the time comes?

Yup it will fit. You can probably something as wide as a 275/30/18, granted a bit tight on the rim, but doable.

255 will fit with no issues. I thought our cars came with 255's in the rear?

Those are the stock tire sizes on the OEM 18" rims from Lexus.

I'll have to go out and check mine. I'm almost certain mine are 245's on the rear... or maybe I'm just losing my mind.

In any event... I could go as wide at a 275 in the rear???

yup, it will fit. It will be a bit tight and bulge out a bit. But definitely it will fit. make sure the installers grease up the rims really well.

And as far as rubbing, you are fine. i am running 275's/30/19 right now with no rubbing issues.

The ride is a bit stiffer since I have a smaller sidewall, but not a huge deal.

The steering is more livelier, I think that is the biggest difference I notice when I get into a loaner, the steering fees absolutely numb on the loaners.

Handling has definitely improved, I can really charge into corners!

Mileage, hmmm, in my case that is affected largely by my right foot. I have a very heavy one

And my mileage depends really on how much I step on it. If I am light on the gas I get 24-25mpg, but if I am not, 18-20mpg.

Overall, I am at 20.3 MPG lifetime in the car.

You know how it was when the car was new. It never wore off. I still have to get my thrills. And I'm running stock 18 wheels and tires.

Same here! Actually, I think it has gotten worst with time! I just love to nail the throttle!

I have to constantly be letting off the gas if not I am doing 80-90mph around my house! Addicting.

And power sliding out of turns! Very, very addicting. Hurts my pocketbook often since I have to replace tires frequently.

Hey - for an IS-f - it runs 225/40/19 front and 255/35/19 rear.

I'd like to go far larger, but I believe the front track increaed to accomodate the V8.

Can any hazard a guess or point to an actual install of more rubber - I plan to get f-sport 19" and put wider MPSC - 245/35/19 front and 295/30/19 rear.

I have 255's on the rear ... I suppose 245's would work without a hitch ?
