MAF went bad!!!

Anyone had the Air flow meter go bad?????

Just got a call from the dealer that the MAF went bad since I have a Joe Z intake and Tanabe cat back exhaust! NUTZO...what a BS excuse.

and of course not covered by the powertrain warranty! $500 dollars to fix. crazy!

The part cost like 100 bucks!

told them to put the car back together, and give it back, i will fix!

Yours is the first I've heard of a failed MAF on a 2IS.

Their excuse is indeed crap, and I'd challenge them to give an engineering analysis of how either could have any impact on a MAF failure... but if you're outside of full warranty it won't matter as it's not part of the powertrain so it's not covered regardless of cause.

I'd imagine you can get one a lot cheaper elsewhere though and it should take about 5 minutes to replace yourself.

Yeah, I did not waste my time arguing, what for.

I found the part for $120 bucks at Sewell Lexus. Having it shipped and installing myself.

Don't know about the Cat back exhaust part, but doesn't Lexus now sell and "i-tuned" equivalent to the JoeZ?

If the JoeZ was a contributing factor, wouldn't the F-Sport part be guilty of the same problem, yet they (the manufacturer) sell it.

That'd be the F-sport intake.

It's a BS excuse though with no basis in reality.

The Joe Z pipe installs downstream of the MAF... and the exhaust is way downstream of the MAF.

Hell if anything the F-sport would be more suspect since it actually changes something upstream of the MAF (the lower airbox)

Clubfoot has a good point though... might wanna pull the MAF off and clean it up with some electronics cleaner from autozone for $5 before throwing a new MAF at it.

I pointed out the same, that their own F-sport would do the same...BS excuse really. I was not going to say anything to them. But I went to speak to the service manager about it.

And told him and the service rep basically that the reason was an utter ignorant response from the technician. And in the future to at least use some sort of common sense before speaking to a customer. Not all owners are ignorant, and mechanically inept.

I did take the MAF out to clean first, btw. I did not have any cleaning solution, and ran out of rubbing alcohol too....It looked fairly clean however, no build up on it. I recall cleaning the MAF on my first gen once or twice.

I ordered the new one, but good idea on going to pick up a cleaning solution also.

That is basically what I explained to them. The pipe is downstream from the MAF.

I could understand say that I ran the car without an air filter, or the filter was filthy dirty.

Hey Bro, your not the only One. My MAF sensor went bad as well. But im already out of warranty so the dealer couldn't blame some of my aftermarket parts. I too had a aftermarket full catback exhaust and aftermarket intake.. Stupid sensor caused the car to light up like a christmas tree
