IS350 fuel economy

Hello all,

I'm considering buying 09 used IS250or 350 but noticed the fuel economy of 2011 IS350 is 20/27(City/Highway) unlikely pre 2010 models(18/25). As far as I know, there is no power train difference between them. Could anyone let me know why I'm seeing the difference? 18/25 is still not too bad for me as I'm driving 08 G35xS but the lower the better.

They changed to a lighter weight oil and retested... (possibly they played with the tire inflation/alignment stuff a touch too).... but yeah, there's no "real" reason for the change.

And FWIW I get about 28-30 highway on my 2008 IS350, 20-22 city. I've never gotten as low as 18 no matter what kind of driving I do.

I don't get people who buy 4 cylinder Trucks and Suvs because they
think they're going to get better mileage.
Heavy vehicle + Having to work a small motor to death to get anywhere does NOT = Better fuel economy.
My .02

Get an IS350

I have a mix of highway/city driving every week and I always avg according to the computer about 22MPG. No way I see 28 to 30MPG on the highway, maybe it's because I am always going 75 to 80MPH??

Keeping your air filter clean? are your spark plugs getting old? How's your tire inflation?

On a pure highway trip in a properly maintained and running 350, you should certainly be seeing 28-30 even at 75, unless you're constantly speeding up and slowing down or something.

Cheez's recommended tire pressure - 40 PSI front and back.
Less rolling resistance means we are in business.

Don't get in the habit of slowing down and speeding up. Use cruise control.
Travel at 60 or 65 mph. You can save more gas.
Wax your car more often. Keeping the paint surface ultra smooth helps on the aerodynamics. If you have a lot of paint chips on the front end, have it repainted and wax.

Brand new tires or new tires will also hurt your fuel economy. Used one is best.
