HID Bulbs for the 350

Last thing I heard, the stock HID's on the 350 only run at sumthing like 5800k, which to me is crap. I heard that the HID bulbs in the 350 are a special one (D4S or sumthing?) and there havent been any aftermarket bulbs made. Is that correct? If anyone knows where I can pick up some higher temp. bulbs (if they make them yet) that will fit my 350, let me know. thanx.

There are HID bulbs for the IS350 out and many people on this forums have installed them. Do you have stock HID lights or are you looking to upgrade.

Your bulbs are D4S which are mercury free bulbs...stock D4S bulbs are 4800K bulbs...correct me if im wrong...are almost 5000K bulbs...which should give you a decent output of light. If you go above 6000K your light output will be negligible, but if you want to go with the aqua blue look go with 8000K, anything above 8000K will be purple....

P.S. Excuse me if im wrong...typing in almost in a drunken stage...

Correct....and the reason they are that temperature (NOT LIGHT OUTPUT) is because that is the temperature that most resembles the light temperature of the sun.
The higher the temperature, the bluer it the light gets. The only drawback is that now you see less given the same light output (35watts).

I went with a slighter bluer tone, 6K with my aftermarket kit, because I wanted just a bit more blueish light.

I know there are higher wattage HID bulbs, I think 55 watt units, but I am not sure if the ballasts can handle them.

Way to bump a thread from the dead, but the above information is both right and wrong...

It is true that stock ISx50 HID bulbs are Phillips D4S mercury free bulbs with a color temperature 4800K, but the light output, measured in lumens, is greater than that of a Phillips 4150-4300K D2S by 600 lumens (i.e., 3800 lumens vs. 3200 lumens).

While color temperate of a D4S bulb is approaching that of sunlight, it actually puts out more lumens than its D2S counterpart. Because of that, you cannot think in terms of D2S vs D4S. Not only does light output differ but voltage voltage requirements are not the same. A standard D2S bulb operates at 35W @ 85V while a D4S bulb operates at 35W @ 42V.

The misnomer that as the color output increases, lumens decrease is essentially true, but D4 based HID lighting is an attempt to overcome electronic limitations of man-made lighting. Man is not able to produce the full spectrum of light as we increase color temperature, and instead of a broad graph of the entire visible spectrum of light, we get short peaks of light through the visible spectrum, which is what contributes to the loss of lumens as you go up the Kelvin scale.

As a side note, 50+ watt HID's are a whole other entity that I covered in the following thread and to the best of my knowledge, NO ONE has toyed with such setups utilizing anything other than D2 bulbs and the Phillips MPXL-DL50 designed for high wattage use.

I installed 8000k's HIDs from AAC in my 08 is350 and they gave me a purple output, but on the other hand my 8000k fogs are light blue the way i want them. Why dont they match? Anyone else have the same problem?
