FSport Intake and Exhaust.

IS Forum Members,

Good evening. I recently installed the F-Sport air intake and TRD (F-Sport) performance exhaust systems on my 2007 IS 350. While the car certainly SOUNDS more aggressive, the power comes on in very unpredictable and inconsistent manners. On top of that, my gas mileage plummeted by over 50mpg per tank, and pedal response has not improved. In short, the initial thrill of these new add-on's has died for me rather quickly.

I shared this with a few car buff colleagues at the firm. They suggested that the on-board computers have not been re-calibrated/tuned to accommodate the added performance elements. Is this true? If so, where would I go in the DC metro area to get a closer inspection?

BTW...has anyone else out there tried doing similar performance upgrades? Can you provide any guidance on the issue?

Thanks,

Neither mod you did will add a significant amount of power to the car (roughly 5 hp for the intake, roughly 7 for the exhaust).

Assuming you installed everything correctly (ie no air leaks in the intake allowing unmetered air in or out and such)... and assuming you are driving the car the same way (some people will drive more aggressively after these mods because the like the sound revving higher now gets them)... you ought see pretty much 0 change in mileage...and not much in the way of noticeable performance difference either.... the car will be louder though.

As to the computer... depends.

Did you disconnect your battery?

if you did that (you didn't need to) your car has now lost all of the "learned" behavior it has acquired over its life about how you drive your car, and is reset to factory defaults. That can easily cause a noticeable change in behavior until it re-learns how you drive. It will relearn on it's own, there's nothing anyone else can do to "calibrate" or otherwise alter it.

If you didn't disconnect the battery then no, the ECU shouldn't really care at all about your mods as they're very minor and don't much impact the MAF/O2 feedback system the car uses for most air/fuel decisions.
