Automatic Wipers. Can they be disabled?

I dislike the automatic wiper function, If I want the wipers on I will turn them on. Last night at a gas station, this guy trying to make a buck washing windows comes over and I give him a nod, and away he went. A spray here and there then he found him self being attacked by the wipers. It got him pretty good. I have also been attacked by the wipers. I can't stand this function so Is there any way to disable this.

If you have the wiper switch in position 1, that should turn the wiper system completely off. Most people leave the wipers in position 2 and forget about the wipers. So when it's sunny the wipers are "off" but once it detects water on the windshield they start to do their thing. Position 0 should be the top most position but your switch will not stay in that position because it's the "wipe once" position.

From top to bottom position of the stalk:

Position/effect
1 - OFF
2 - Auto
3 - ON low speed
4 - ON high speed

It's all in the manual...

Just to clear things up, I was talking about the rain sensing function of the wipers.

both my parents have RXs with that same function. first time it came on automatically, i was like WTF? i looked at the 4 little pictures, and figured out SOMEHOW by God's gift that it was on auto, and turned it to OFF.
not that difficult.

and i didn't find this waste of a thread by going to the 2nd gen IS forum.
on the homepage, if you scroll alllllll the way down, it shows the most recent threads people have posted on.

speaking of which, what i was talking about was that if you ever keep an eye out for those "recent" threads, they're ALL useless. this forum has become cluttered with newbies who are all learning the things we learned long long time ago.

that's what i was referring to. NOTHING NEW OR INTERESTING because all the innovative "risk-takers" who ever took apart their cars and taught the rest of us the ins and outs of our ISs dont waste their time coming on this useless forum anymore. clear?

Dude,

If you don't like a question, why not just ignore it? Thank God for questions... once there are no more questions, there will be no more forum.

yea, i guess you're right. thankfully though. probably why i'm still loyal to this forum (still have never used clublexus or isfanatics).
its just sad because this forum is the reason i know whatever little or a lot i know about cars about the IS in specific and anyone off the top of my head whose DIY or installation threads i ever read don't post anymore.

i made what i seem to think is a pretty valid comment about the current status of this forum.
let's assume we don't sit on the forum all day. you check it a few times a day, whenever you have a few free minutes. on the home page when you scroll all the way down, you're LUCKY if you find one interesting or useful thread per week. (obviously if you sit on here all day you may come across a few more)
it used to be that out of those 10 (or however many) recent threads are listed there, you couldn't get to all of them fast enough because so many of them were something new, or different, or a new installation thread, or SOMETHING interesting.
and anyone who disagrees is either new to this forum, or one of the ones who is posting these useless threads.

yea, maybe. but there comes a point where its just over the top.
people on this forum get sh*t for asking how to change a fuse, or how to change the taillights, or if the new wheels they want to buy will fit. they get sh*t because all of these things have been covered a MILLION times. half of that stuff even has its own sticky thread. so its just annoying if you're someone who created one of these DIY threads, or took the time to search and learn something that took you a whole of TWO minutes to find, and someone comes on and doesnt even TRY. as if they want every little thing spoon-fed to them.

in their defense, though, AT LEAST they're trying to do something useful!
i'm sure the guy who started this thread is a nice guy, drives a cool car, has made many useful posts on this forum, whatever else. but that has NOTHING to do with it. i just made a point that it was ridiculous that all it took was to look at the four damn little illustrations on the wiper switch.

Frankly, I don't post here to comment on the quality of the threads. If I see a thread that interests me, I post, if not, I stay quiet.

I consider myself a fairly smart guy but I'm apt to say or write things that might not always be on the ball. In that regard, who am I to say anything about anyone else? IS Life is a good poster, creates useful threads and makes me laugh. Reason enough to cut him some slack, no?

Enough with the bickering. The question has been answered. If you're so loyal to the forum, then stop trashing and bashing it.

Beat me to it by minutes!
The day that any question is a dumb question is a day we shouldn't have a forum IMO.

For those of you wishing to flame, need I remind you we have the PL?

Righteo. What with the 2nd gen IS being out now for 3 model years, there isn't much new stuff to talk about. Helping is helping, but bitching is not. Takes a little effort but that's what we all should be here for.
