LSD question

I am thinking about buying a used 2001 IS 300 and was wondering how you can tell if an 01 has the limited slip differential option....

Also, are there any major problems I should look for on this model? It is a pearl white with moonroof and the leather/ecsaine power seats.

thanks

check the sticky, it has tons of information.
Biggest problem for the 01's was the ECU upgrade to cure a rough 1-2 upshift.
As far as the LSD, not sure how to check. I think you can check by the VIN number.

Besides the VIN #, you could check if the IS has LSD or not is to start up the car and move forward, you should hear some click sound from the rear.

This is probably the single most-asked question here. The answer:

Open the driver's door and look at the sticker with the different codes on it.

If you have an '02 manual, B01B indicates you have the LSD.

If you have an '01 auto, B02C indicates you have LSD; if B02A then you don't.

I assume that the codes are the same for the 02/03/04 autos and the 03/04 manuals.

If you go to the Lexus website and call the 800 customer service number, you can give them the VIN # and they will tell you every option the car came with. That is what I did for the same reason as you.
