Toyota's Direct Injection: F/I Bonus?

If anyone has read about the new IS in the story on teh front page of my.is you may have noticed that Toyota's Direct Injection also has a secondary injectors that are not direct injection but more tradiotonal type. Now my question is will this make F/I harder or easier than just direct injection ???

While it may be easier to change the secondary injectors to larger units, Will Standalones be able to control 2 injectors per cylinder?

Just something that popped to mind, Please Let's get a few thoughts here on this new revelation.

I think some computer guru out there really needs to hack the stock ECU. I don't know if this new IS uses CAN or not yet, but all cars soon will, and.........it needs to be hacked.

But as far as other standalones out there, I'm sure they will develop units to control anything that comes out. I think any shop who wants to keep up is going to have to be a lot more experienced/educated with the technology to stay competitive. Boosting these new cars seems like its going to be a fine science.

but aluminum blocks can be sleeved.....still not iron, but it's a band aid for the hardcore enthusiast. I agree though, the new engine won't be boost friendly at all........

Could you possibly run stock maps on the direct injection and add the extra fuel only with upgraded external injectors? As for sleaving the new motor, until it is in a pure-bred sports car I doubt anyone will take the trouble to develope it.

Your talkin to my guy all wrong...your using the wrong tone...do it againg and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering Iron

Im pretty sure you will be able to run an emanage and just throw on an extra 1600cc injector or two in front of the trottle body and that should be more than enough fuel to help with the 5/6 psi of boost.

No there will be lower boost Turbo setups, probably won't see more than 10 psi at first though, and probably not tooo much more after that. but then again 10 psi done corectly on a 3.5 v6 with 306 stock would still be pretty dang quick, 500 hp at least i'd assume. . . Aluminum blocks are not the end of boost. Although I do wonder with bolt ons what kind of power will be aceivable (sp? it's friday and i don't really care) anyone think we could get a solid 320 to the rear wheels?

Just thinking of the programming needed to control 2 sets of injectors while monitoring everything else to have the data available, that's gonna be a pretty dang powerful ecu . . . hopefully we will be able to tune it somehow.

Oh well maybe there will be some hope in a 1UZ motor in the new IS in a few years.

I don't think you'll see anywhere near 10 psi on stock internals with these motors, the direct injection motors run high compression.....

No not on stock internals, but with new rods and pistons ya i think so probably more than 10 in that case, but ya i guess i wasn't really thinking, 7 or 8 is more likely with a headgasket . . . Compression on direct injection is what 11.5? 12? i seem to remember those numbers thrown around somewhere.

yea, upwards of 12 on many DFI engines, I've even heard it will be possible to run near diesel CR's once they really perfect the technology. Don't diesel's have CR's in the 18 or 20 range? I know diesel's still run turbo's though, so don't know how that will carry over to regular cars.......

what I'd like to see is an inline 6 iron block using DFI. I think new technology can be good, but don't leave the tried and true behind either.........

Yup diesels run right at 18 or so. I dunno if they will manage the CR of a Diesel ever because the inherient pressure that diesel will spontaniously combust compared to gasoline. but i wouldn't be supprised to see 15 or 16 one day . . .

Deffinitley exciting technology, Gives some more options for cam timing as gas can be added whenever needed . . .

Wonder if you could create a afterburner using a spare turbo now? . .. . . .
Oh ok now i'm just bored as hell at work . . . ..
