McLaren has had a highly successful year with its MP4-12C, and the British automaker is looking to further impress American enthusiasts at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Heavily influenced by the MP4-12C GT3 race car, the MP4-12C Can-Am Edition is a concept by McLaren GT, the new subdivision of the automaker specializing in developing race cars. It features a wide body kit, fully complemented by a carbon fiber splitter, dive planes, rear spoiler, and rear diffuser, helping increase downforce by over 30-percent compared to the factory model.
To give it a true McLaren heritage to the Can-Am Edition, McLaren GT finished it off in a bright orange shade, reminiscent of the cars from Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme from the ’60s and ’70s. The beautiful orange is contrasted by matte black and carbon fiber accents.
And since this is merely a concept, McLaren was able to tune its 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V8 to pump out 630-hp while weighing in at a scant 2,645.5 lbs. On all four corners are lightweight matte black forged wheels, while upgraded brakes reside behind each roller. Of course the interior has been completely stripped out to be in true race form, featuring six-point harnesses, a full roll cage, and a removable steering wheel.
