No compromises. We want it to be the something that car magazines would drool over. Don't want it to be boring.

Then I feel it should be mid-engined with awd, but you can have full control over the awd bias so you can choose to have the fun qualities of an rwd car or the grippiness of awd (however, if you choose to focus the bias towards the front, the car will shut off, eject the driver out, and render their electronic key useless because that is just plain wrong). Also, no traction control.

Variable Torque Control just transfers torque depending on the conditions, but on a normal day, that diff gives power to all four wheels, permanently.
I suppose it would be possible to get better balance with the engine in the middle but that would set the driver very very far forward if it were to be mounted in the middle.

I've always had a problem with MR in the fact that is never really is. The qualification (that I know of) is just that the crank is in front of the rear axle but that doesn't really give you what you're looking for most of the time.

In most MR applications that I've seen the engine is actually mounted quite high in relation to the rest of the car since the transmission is directly under it or it sits on top of a drive shaft. As seen in the following picture of the Audi R8.

I say that we mount the engine daringly low and close to the center with half the banks obscured by the firewall. That way you can blab to your friends about how it requires special mechanics to change spark plugs. Oh yeah, and it keeps the weight closer to the center so the yaw rate of the car will be absurd.

There we have it, Part 3 of our venture. It's Mid-Engined-RWD car. Time for the Suspension!

P.S. Where in the world is Tom!?

Only if done truly right. I shalt not have it done any other way!

How about the Gumpert? We definitely want fully adjustable, but I feel it should be done mechanical with a wrench, not with computers. Lack of computers would also save a bit of weight and make sure that only people who know what they are doing can tamper with the settings.

I'd say just throw this engine/tranny combo in an E36 M3 chassis with a full Turner Motorsports racing suspension package and we're good.

Well, obviously you're not a golfer.

This defeats the purpose of "no compromises." You are either in it to win it or not.

But the Caparo would just break down or catch fire, so I dunno if we could trust any parts off of it. However, this debate between the Gumpert and the Caparo raises the issue of aerodynamics. We want something that is aerodynamic and will plant the car on the pavement, but not anything as catastrophically ugly as the Gumpert or Veyron. We also don't want the aerodynamics to be useless at slow speeds like the Caparo. I think if we can get the aerodynamic properties of the Veyron or Gumpert into something that looks like a 458 then we would be set.

Exactly! Then it wouldn't be the "Ultimate Car"
