Newb questions on buying 34k mile 2003

My wife is interested in a hatch type vehicle. No SUV's. The local Subaru dealer has a 2003 Sportcross with 34K miles on it. Asking $15,900. Automatic. One owner. Edmunds says $14K. Probably has the original timing belt since it only has 34k miles. I found on here that the belt should be changed at 90k miles but is there also a number of years requirement like change the belt at some specific number of years or 90k miles which ever comes first? I usually do most if not all the wrenching on my cars and have done timing belts before myself. I was also wondering where to find a list of TSB for 2003. Does alldata provide all that for a fee? I'll probably buy a carfax for the car to see what it tells.

Thanks for any info.

Is that the car in Shrewsbury? My guess is the car's in good shape and whoever traded it in felt that they needed AWD as opposed to RWD. Sometimes it will say on the engine cover the date the timing belt was changed if ever. Just ask for it to be inspected and make sure it isn't dried out. It probably hasn't had the 30k service done, but they won't be nearly as bad as the 60 or 90k.

What do you think about the price. Too high?

To me the price is little high. You are talking about a 7 year old car that cost 15,900 plus tax and registration. In Cali, that price would be close to 18k out the door. You should definitely bargain down on the price. Print out the kbb price and show it the dealer.

the car sounds perfect. BUT for that price.. that car should have all prior 30K work done, and I would even try to bargain in the 90K service due to age.. bit steep.. if you like it, don't give up. see what you kind of offer you can put in on it first..

It's not too bad. Only 34k miles!

Just make sure 30k service has been done. I paid over KBB for mine and I am not regretting. I wanted the car....done deal.

Your wife will be happy with the Sportcross. Good luck with your decision.

Also, register that Sportcross with it's vin# on the Lexus Owner's website. This will list any service done to the car by a Lexus dealership. Before I bought mine, I did the same and found out that all maintenance was up to date done at Beverly Hills Lexus.

Walk in with a check made out to them for 11k. Leave them your business card if they come back with ANY other number. I bet you take the car home. SX are slow movers; if they aren't careful they will sit on it a long time. Especially this time of year where things are slowing down a bit.
